There are so many opportunities available for you to choosefrom today and so much information available to you — unfortunately this isn’t always a
positive.
Building a business can be very exciting and rewarding, but it can also be very challenging staying focused and accomplishing real work that creates
real results with the amount of information and opportunities available to us today.
It is critical to stay focused and work on eliminating distractions from your daily schedule so that you can be successful in building your business.
Here are some tips that I have found over the years to help me stay
focused and eliminate distractions:
Work in Chunks of Time:
Blocking out chunks of time to accomplish certain tasks can be very productive and allow you to accomplish a lot more than if you multi task. I
typically block out time slots of 1 – 2 hours to complete a certain
task. In this block of time I do not answer phone calls, check email
or communicate on IM.
Check and Respond to E-mail at set times:
E-mail is a wonderful tool, and I couldn’t live without it, however it can
be a huge time waster. If you can set certain times of the day to check and respond to email you will be much more focused and eliminate the distraction of checking email every 5 minutes. The 4-hour work week suggests checking email only two to three times a day.
Setup filters in your e-mail:
Setting up filters in your email to help you see at a glance what is
important and what can wait until later. These filters can filter messages by sender, title and other categories as well. You can even work with those that you communicate with frequently to use labels in subject so that you know what you need to do with the message and can filter it as needed (ie: INFO, URGENT, ACTION, MEETING)
Set your IM status:
IM is a great tool to communicate and stay connected while working
remotely, but it can also be a large distraction if you let it be.
The distraction of IM however can be eliminated by setting your
status if you are busy to let those that communicate with you that
you aren’t available.
Don’t Jump at every new Opportunity:
In today’s world there are so many opportunities available that it is
really hard to stay focused and not jump to the next thing. This is
a very important thing to follow so that you can be successful. Take
time to define what your business model is and stay focused on items
that pertain to your business. Work on an idea or project until you
have it up and running and working as you want before you move to
another project or opportunity. It is important as well that your
customers, prospects, clients, downline, etc see you focused.
I hope that you can use some of these tips to help you be successful
and stay focused and eliminate distractions that keep you from being
successful.
